SOKE Giuseppe Di Garbo

Master Giuseppe Di Garbo was born at Castelbuono, Palermo (Sicily). His mother was from Veneto and his father from Sicily. Since 1956 he lives in Piove di Sacco (Padova – Italy). In 1977, helped by his Master, he opened his first Dojo in the city of Piove di Sacco. The Dojo was small, but it had all the characteristics of the Japanese ones.

Who is Master Di Garbo?

Master Di Garbo  is a teacher of arts, methods and oriental philosophies, founder of various disciplines recognized to international level and a he repute himself just a  researcher in search of himself, a traveller to the conquest of the liberty and the purity, a person that writes on the pages of his own thought and he won't be satisfied until everything is hidden in its  being has not definitely budded to the light of the conscience… as a flame toward the sky as a flower toward the sun as a seed that flies to create other flowers. Master Di Garbo is a teacher that has begun the street of the Budo after many others and before others and he doesn't consider himself the best. He can transmit his experience of life in the Budo and for the one whom believes they don't serve a lot of explanations. For the one whom doesn't believe, any explanation is valid. He looks for students that are humble, prepared to learn and not fanatical that want to make of a simple discipline theirs immortal religion. It looks for students that want to follow the conscience and not to adore the presumed qualities of a teacher. Don’t think that the teacher is the illuminate one, the saint of the situation or the mage… the teacher is a only a mortal that desires to spread his knowledges.

Birth of the Go Ju Do Modern

Being a Teacher that helps to make to know a traditional Martial art and then to detach himself from the established order, is one of the things most difficult to do in the world. An action of rebellion is an action of courage and requires  determination and self confidence. Master Di Garbo has united the classical Goju Ryu, Goju USA (Urban 10° dans) and Goju Italia (Rossato10° dan) in a new dress defined by the Teacher Urban "Italy Gojudo Moderno" and, progressing on this road, he is showing a great determination and confidence in himself and in the ones who still belive in the Master.  In 1985 officially went out for the first time the term "Go Ju Do Modern"; after this some thought that the Master Di Garbo was stupid, egocentric, even sacreligious.   This was enough for provoking the protests of the traditionalists with narrow ideas, anyway also these "criticals" today cannot ignore the contribution that the Master Di Garbo is giving to the Karate and the Jiu-Jitsu in our Country.

Definition of the Go Ju Do Modern

The meeting among different cultures is for itself nature hard and difficult, conflicts, tensions and the risks of the error must be foreseen. The Go Ju Do Modern, aware of this difficulty, proposes some initiatives that want to be a stimulus for the ones who are going to start with this discipline. This style seeks continuously a new mentality: light the ancient histories for  to develop them in a conscience turned to the present in a continuous becoming. I have defined the Go Ju Do Modern as an attitude to the study and the search of the Martial Arts, whose wealth originates from the history. It was born with the purpose to find the quality and the true meaning of the Budo to realize them and suite them for our days. It treats in fact of a contemporary creation that finds its dynamism sinking its roots in the history of the Martial Arts.  The Go Ju Do Modern is not destined to physically turn the student into a something invincible, but aim to the improvement of the search of the abilities and the internal qualities (still a little known from the westerners) through the forms that the tradition of the Budo has left each other. And this is the teaching of all the Martial Arts.    The Go Ju Do Modern is able to gather alternative streets for any problem that could come. And it’s philosophy in continuous development that serves really both to free from the stress, both to always have an elastic and agile body. The Go Ju Do Modern is characterized by three bases that are intersected:

- first: it is a philosophy visual physics of the action;

- second: it is a philosophy of the love for itself and for the others;

- third: it is a philosophy of past, present and future life.

As a  philosophy of action it sets the single one in front of the death, seen as the last destination of every action. As philosophy of  love, is based on the firm conviction that what which derives from the pure and instinctive sincerity, it directly conducts to an ideal to fight, to live and, if necessary, to die for.  As a  philosophy of life, is based on what you have done, you do and you will do.  The Go Ju Do Modern  helps your to examine the facts with the mind cleared from every thought, with determination and with the ability to foresee every detail, every particular in order to be ready in the critical moments and  to face your problems. It helps you to take the decisions one after the other and therefore to live better, because whole your choices builds your life; it helps yourself to increase the love for yourself and for the others.   The Go Ju Do Modern it is teacher of self-control, both in the Martial Arts and in the civic duties. It helps yourself to possess calm, serenity and an extreme dignity.  Remembered that there is dignity in the effort, there is dignity in the calm, there is dignity in the silence, there is dignity to being forced and in to act correctly, but there is also dignity in  tightening the teeth and in  sending lightnings from the eyes.    He/she remembers: our real "Me", done of mind and of body unified, it will find solution to thousand problems following the philosophy of the Go Ju Do Modern.
